Find out moreCampsite safety
The most important thing when going on a camping holiday is to know that you and your loved ones are safe and well, make sure you take a few extra steps to ensure you all stay safe
Fires at campsites
When camping it sometimes is nice to have a fire to all gather around, but there are a few steps to ensure you all stay safe first…
Make sure that you are allowed to a have a fire – some campsites do not allow fires due to the risks involved
Make sure the fire is nowhere near any tents, awnings, etc. due to the risk
Check the weather and wind beforehand, there is nothing worse than getting that fire going then the heavens open and the wind picks up to put a dampener on your fire!
Food and drinks
Don’t drink excessively at a campsite - there are lots of children and other people wanting to have a good time, so keep the drinking to an adequate level or just go to the pub
Clean up behind you – you wouldn’t leave food and rubbish everywhere at home so don’t leave it at a campsite, just have a little clean up after when you are leaving
Tent pitching
Make sure that when you pitch your tent you pitch it in the allocated place
Make sure that you have assembled your tent correctly because we don’t want you blowing away during a windy night!
Tie your tent down with strong guide rope and secure it with pegs
Electric hook up
Make sure that you know what you are doing when you are connecting your tent, caravan or Motorhome to electric hook up. We have all heard of those dreadful accidents and we would never want that to happen to you!
Road safety
Tell the children and sometimes the adults – make sure that everybody is aware of the road safety in and around the campsite, most campsites will have speed restricts but you can never be too safe.
Lighting
Hang lanterns securely away from children’s reach
Make sure they are tied up securely
Set up a safe meeting place
When you arrive at a campsite set up a safe meeting place just in case anybody does get lost.
Mobile phones – if the children are old enough then give them a mobile phone to use in case of emergencies.
Never be afraid to ask or tell someone
If you notice something that could potentially harm or hurt someone then tell a member of staff immediately
If you need some advice or help with site safety, then ask a member of staff
Every campsite will have their own set of rules and policies so make sure you familiarize yourself with them before you go or when you are there.
